Historian Dan T. Carter retired after forty years of teaching at Emory University, the University of Maryland, and the University of South Carolina. He is the author of a half dozen books including Scottsboro: A Tragedy of the American South (winner of the Bancroft Prize in American History) and The Politics of Rage, a study of George Wallace and his impact on American politics (winner of the Robert F. Kennedy Book Prize). He a member of the Unitarian Universalists of Transylvania County, North Carolina.
