Letters in local newspapers, magazines, and online sites are prime forums for influencing a wide audience, including government officials.

Earlier this year, the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Side With Love team published the first issue-specific toolkit to help UUs write and publish letters to amplify voices for justice, "Tools to Help UUs Thwart Anti-transgender Bills and Attacks." The resource provides key talking points, useful quotes, top information sources, and more.

Side With Love also provides more general toolkits, like "Words that Inspire: Craft and Publish Compelling Letters to the Editor" and "How and Why to Write Effective Guest Commentaries for Your Local Media." See Side With Love's Public Communication page for these and additional issue-specific guides as they are published.

Beyond the toolkits, Side With Love now offers personal assistance to help you hone your skills, both through its "Skill-Up" workshops and via direct feedback on draft letters or guest commentaries. Use this simple online submission form, and you’ll promptly receive tips from a professional editor to polish your draft for maximum effect.
