An immigrant woman in Texas who identifies as lesbian has been living in sanctuary in First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin since June. She is now free to return to her home in the city. Sulma Franco is originally from Guatemala and has been petitioning Immigration and Customs Enforcement to stay in the United States because she fears persecution in her home country because of her sexual orientation. Michigan UU family found dead in home
In a shocking and tragic turn of events, the Mendenhall family of four was found dead in their home on August 13. Police are currently investigating what appears to have been a murder suicide. The Rabbi Chava Bahle, spiritual leader the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Grand Traverse where the family was active, said it was a honor to have them in the congregation. Bethesda banner vandalized a third time
In the third act of vandalism in as many weeks, River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Bethesda, Maryland has had its “Black Lives Matter” banner stolen. The previous times, the word “Black” was cut out of the sign. While the act has angered the congregation and members of the local community, members vow to replace the banner again.
