As hurricane cleanup continues in Texas and Florida and elsewhere in the southeastern United States—and as more hurricanes devastate Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and other Caribbean islands—the Unitarian Universalist Association is urging its donors to contribute to its Disaster Relief Fund, formerly the Hurricane Irma Recovery Fund, which has received approximately $62,000. The UUA-UU Service Committee Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund has met its goal, with more than $350,000 in donations, UUA fundraisers say, and the webpage for that appeal is now redirecting donors to the Irma fundraiser with this language:

We are deeply grateful to the 2,000+ individual donors, as well as more than 75 UU congregations who have collectively contributed in excess of $350,000 to the Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund. Our friends and neighbors in Florida and the Caribbean have experienced similar devastation following Hurricane Irma and need as much, or even greater, assistance. We invite you to contribute to the Hurricane Irma Recovery Fund.

Update 9/27/17: The UUA renamed the Hurricane Irma Recovery Fund and expanded its scope as the UUA Disaster Relief Fund:

As the Caribbean and coastal U.S. continues to be threatened by additional storms, your donations will allow the UUA to respond flexibly as new situations arise.

The UUA stands with its congregations which have been impacted by these natural disasters and has established the UUA Disaster Relief Fund to assist congregations in repairing any damage, and to respond to the needs of their members' and their community's efforts to get back on its feet.
